Austria is the headquarters and starting point from which the Vienna Insurance Group began its successful expansion into the CEE region in 1990. Together with Wiener Städtische Versicherung and Donau Versicherung, VIG is the largest insurance group in Austria.
VIG is represented by two companies in the country: Wiener osiguranje, based in Banja Luka, and Vienna osiguranje, based in Sarajevo.
In Bulgaria, VIG is represented by Bulstrad Non-Life and Bulstrad Life, and leads the market ranking. In addition, there is a participation in Doverie, the largest Bulgarian pension insurance company.
In Belarus, Vienna Insurance Group is represented by the non-life insurance company Kupala, which exclusively serves private customers and companies.
With Wiener osiguranje, which operates in the life and non-life business, VIG is one of the top 5 insurance companies in the market in Croatia.

In 2019, Vienna Insurance Group expanded its business activities in Northern Europe by establishing branch offices in Denmark, among other countries, and offers insurance solutions to large customers through locally established underwriters.

Vienna Insurance Group has been active in Germany since 1990, where it is represented by the companies InterRisk Non-Life and InterRisk Life. Since 2017, VIG has also been active in Germany with a branch of the Group's own reinsurance company VIG Re.
In Hungary, VIG owns Union Biztosító and Alfa Biztositó. VIG Asset Management, which is responsible for expanding VIG's investment business, is also based in Hungary. In Hungary, VIG is the number 1 in the insurance market.
